Dr.
Oliver Chong
Dr. Chong was born
and raised in Montreal, Quebec, and is bilingual in English and French.
He studied at the University of Waterloo in Ontario from 1985 to 1993
where he obtained his Bachelor of General Science and Doctor of Optometry
degrees.
His clinical externship
in Hong Kong included rotations in the Hong Kong Polytechnic Optometry
Section, the Hong Kong Society for the Blind General and Low Vision Clinic,
and the Prince of Wales Hospital Eye Department. Upon his graduation in
1993, he moved to British Columbia where he practiced as an associate
in various private optometry practices in Vancouver/Lower Mainland. In
June 1996, Dr. Chong founded the Mission Eye Clinic.
Dr. Chong has also
been very active in volunteer and committee work since graduating including
the position of B.C. Association of Optometrists (BCAO) councillor for
the Greater Vancouver Region (1994-1997), BCAO Low Vision Committee Chairperson
(1994-1996) and Member (1996-1998), Canadian Association of Optometrist
Low Vision Section Chairperson (1995-1997), Fraser Valley Optometric Association
Treasurer (1995-1996), and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind
(CNIB) B.C. - Yukon Division Board of Management Optometric Representative
(1994-1997). He is presently (2008) a member of the Information System Committee of DEN (Doctor's Eyecare Network).
In
his spare time, Dr. Chong likes to spend time with his wife who completed
her graduate studies at the University of British Columbia in the field
of Second Language Acquisition/Applied Linguistics. Together they have
been very busy with their two young sons. Dr. Chong also enjoys traveling,
learning Japanese, singing, playing guitar, and has recently learned
to snowboard and SCUBA dive. |
