Cataracts

Cataracts are due to a loss of clarity of the crystalline lenses of your eyes. This usually results in a gradual increase in blurry vision and often in increased glare. Contrary to popular belief, cataracts are not "a film that grows over the eyes". Most cataracts are age-related and slowly develop over a lifetime but do not significantly affect your vision until your senior years. Some individuals may have cataracts due to congenital, trauma-related, medication-related, or other origins.
Although cataracts remains the leading cause of blindness in the world, in North America the widespread availability of relatively safe and effective cataract extraction procedures allows for the restoration of good vision in most individuals.
