We are especially experienced in eyeglass problems and difficult prescriptions

  • If you have any difficulty, we will take our time and use our expertise to explain and troubleshoot the problem until you are satisfied.
  • Although most individuals experience little or no symptoms of adaptation to new eyeglasses or lenses, "normal adaptation" to new eyeglasses or lenses can take 1-2 weeks and in some cases even up to 3-4 weeks. During this adaptation period your glasses may feel as if they are "too strong", you may experience some initial depth perception changes, you may find yourself very conscious of turning your head and tilting your chin more often in order to obtain the best vision, and in the worst cases a mild headache can ensue. If possible, we encourage you to wear your spectacles as much as possible during this initial period. (However, if you do not feel comfortable, do not wear your glasses in potentially unsafe situations.) This will allow for a faster adaptation period.
  • However, if your adaptation symptoms are not improving or are persisting beyond 3-4 weeks then we recommend that you return to the clinic as soon as possible. Our dispensers will then take the time troubleshoot your difficulties by double-checking your spectacles, their adjustment, and your use of them. For some prescriptions and lens types, very small refinements in your eyeglass adjustment can result in a tremendous difference in comfort and performance (this is particularly true of progressive (no-line multifocals) lenses and very high prescriptions). Very often a review of the performance, use, and limitations of your prescription and/or lens type can remedy the problem (e.g., For patients with presbyopia, good lighting, proper distance to your near visual task, and how the eyeglasses are used can make a significant difference).
  • In a few cases, our dispensers will arrange for a minor exam with the doctor in order to double-check some of the eye exam findings. This will usually be done when our dispenser cannot find any problem with the spectacles, their use, or adjustment, or if attempts at remedying the adaptation problem prove unsuccessful.
  • In rare cases, lenses may need to be re-made to a slightly different power in order to enhance adaptation. Within 2 to 3 months this is usually done at no additional charge. This provides us with ample time to ensure that your new glasses are functioning properly. If an upgrade in lens type or options are required within the initial 2 to 3 months then we usually only charge the difference in price.
